Calgary Flames Rookie Samuel Honzek Injured
The Calgary Flames have reported that rookie winger Samuel Honzek will be sidelined for a week-to-week duration due to an upper-body injury sustained during a collision with captain Mikael Backlund in a recent game against the Winnipeg Jets. Honzek, who left the game in the second period, has been an important player for the Flames this season as they focus on developing young talent. In 18 games, he has recorded four points, 22 shots on goal, and 35 hits. After spending most of last season with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers, where he tallied 21 points in 52 games, Honzek made his NHL debut toward the end of the previous season. With Honzek joining fellow rookies Zayne Parekh and Martin Pospisil on the injured list, the Flames may look to Yegor Sharangovich to step up in the bottom-six lineup. If Sharangovich does not improve, Matvei Gridin, a promising rookie from the minors, could be called up after a strong performance in the AHL, where he has already earned 13 points in 13 games.
