Ron James - Comedian Winnipeg Concert reviews
Queen much better than expected
Overall, I was very impressed by the event, despite my initial skepticism about Ron James - Comedian and it being the first love show of the tour. After all these years, Brian May looks young, and the sound of him and Roger have not missed a beat.
Despite a technical problem causing the sound to go off on the opening song, all else went surprisingly well. Ron James - Comedian may not be Freddie, but he tries his best. In some songs, he succeeds wonderfully, while in others, he fails miserably. He deserves credit for his own interpretations of these classic songs.
Killer queen, I want it all, Radio ga ga, and Somebody to love were examples of the best songs he performed extremely well. Others were not bad but could improve. He has a good range in voice and good stage presence, but no one will come close to Freddie, so comparisons are harsh. He did a good to great job but needs to feel some of the other songs.
Brian May is a guitar God and a great musician, while Roger Taylor knows how to put on a show, and their voices are intact. It is a great concert for everyone, not just hardcore fans. You can take your kids to teach them about rock history and the importance of this rock band and the British invasion.
Although the show had its flaws, I would go again if they come to town.
